Chris Joins Somerset In The SGB Championship

CHRIS HARRIS admits that he is “excited” to join Somerset after it was revealed at the Oak Tree Arena to fans. The former British Grand Prix winner leaves Glasgow after a year in the Championship to sign for the Rebels after they dropped into the second tier. Ironically Harris raced for the Rebels in their final meetings of 2018 as they clinched the Premiership KO Cup over King’s Lynn. Now Bomber is a fully-fledged Rebel and is looking forward to the challenge of mastering the racy pacy OTA circuit. He said: “I’m delighted and excited to finally sign for Somerset. They have always been ambitious and that’s always a good motivation. “The track is somewhere I’ve had good and bad meetings. But I want to master it and I know I will being a home rider every week. “Somerset is one of the best racetracks in the country and I know I can race there and have a lot of fun and entertain. “I enjoyed guesting for the club as they won the KO Cup at King’s Lynn. You get a feeling for how the management operates and they always seem to have a good spirit. “Debbie Hancock and Garry May have got a very decent success record whichever league they have been in and no doubt they are aiming for the same next season.” Harris was also quick to thank the Glasgow Tigers fans and management after his one season at Ashfield. He added: “I enjoyed every minute of being at Glasgow. It’s a great club with great fans and they deserve success. “The travelling was always going to be an issue. I’ve got a young family and Somerset is so much closer to home for me obviously. “That means my family can come to home meetings and support me and at this stage of my career that’s absolutely vital. “It’s also excellent to get a club lined-up so quick in the Championship. I will be preparing now machinery and fitness and can’t wait for next March.” Interview by Phil Lanning Photo: Dave Fairbrother
